Foodborne disease outbreak can cause food poisoning, which affects productivity; wellbeing and can result in death. Effective regulation is critical to preventative measures to ensure food safety. The fact that South Africa still does not have a national food safety authority further complicates effective regulation and control. Researchers at the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security are examining food safety hazards that affect food security and how they can be managed.
