Here is a small animation of my own personal greenhouse (currently under construction) which will be using a Zaug rocket mass heater to heat the grow beds. The vents should be drawn to exit the structure, but I got kind of impatient.
The greenhouse is 16′ x 20′ with a grow bed on each side. It will be heated with a Zaug Stove for year-round growing.
The Zaug will be triple ported to allow two ports to go in to the clay beds on the sides, and one port out the back for a “priming run.” We use the priming run when the mass is cold. It’s a straight up exhaust run that gives the Zaug a chance to warm up before it has to push exhaust through a cold system. Each port will be on its’ own independent valve.
I’m going to turn one side of the greenhouse in to Aquaponics, having the fish tank under the media tray, and one side regular soil in a grow bed. I’d like to compare the differences in farming methods side by side, while all other environment conditions are the same. I’m leaning towards the Aquaponics set up though. I can’t wait to compare the two harvests.

Zaug Stoves

Lets see…. dry wood has about 8000 btu per pound… and if you stood there 12 hours a day feeding wood you might get 57,600 btu if your efficiency was 60%… I don't think the numbers pencil to justify a $2,500 Zaug rocket stove plus another $1,000 plus for exhaust pipe etc… better to use a $150 double barrels stove kit for a greenhouse (remember to put a baffle in the burner drum) You can bulk load the burn barrel with enough cord wood to last all day then re-load for heat all night… engineering is the action of working artfully to bring something about… a conservation of best technology and resources… especially your hard earned money… work smarter not harder…
Yes, It's being built right now.
Is this a plan that will be put to use?
