Take a virtual tour of the Bemidji Community Food Shelf’s Deep Winter Greenhouse with DWG designer Dan Handeen of the College of Design Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR). This is one of five prototype greenhouses across Greater MN supported by the UMN Extension Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships (RSDP) for research and outreach purposes.

How do you control or vent the excess heat from the peak summer months?
I call the Bob Dylan Girl from the North Country Deep Winter Greenhouse.
If I want to build this with the north wall against an existing building, what does the roof look like? Meaning if it slopes toward the building I an concerned about water and debris collecting there and destroying the existing building.
Go Gophers (I'm a Carlson school grad). Any update on this greenhouse? STATISTICS is the most interesting to me … outside temp, inside floor temp, temp at air intake at ceiling, and crushed rock temps … Also cool would be more videos … and discussions of the different plants grown . I'm in Maine – so love this
You could use a vertical glazed surface with a fold up reflector to amplify the light during the day and increase heat retention at night.
Do you know what they heat of the greenhouse has reliably been in the winter? This is a very cool concept. Also, what was the general cost of the project?
