  1. My turtle tank filter is full of just lava rock and a Cotton sheet and boy is my ammonia under control I test it every other day and it always reads 0, and I feed it a lot

  2. ANYONE who is willing to help and do a good deed…I'm actually in my OWN situation here maybe you could help🤷🏼‍♂️ I just got another 60 gallon that's probably NEVER been cleaned from a friend that moved….. When he gave me the canister filter ( Cascade 1,000 ) he DIDN'T have Bio?? Only Carbon bag and sponge full of mulm BAAD…. This will be my Cichlid tank my other is a 60 gallon community tank… Buut, now I have all his substrate with MTS snails everywhere and @10-20 Convict fry in the tank it's setup and running and the water conditions are ACTUALLY dead on already…. Now two of my friends still say BC be didn't clean anything for probably 6 months or more… To start EVERYTHING over throw vinegar in there cycle it etc…. Anny thoughts on this if it was yours and your ready to get the Cichlids in there even though I've added 3 different bio and Lava Rock in the canister etc…. Would you recycle it all?

  4. Amazin vid as always! You asked about " the first setup "… When I started my first tank (10gal), it was pre internet of any type (yup, I'm old) and information was scarce. The only advise I was given was to get some rocks with algea or slime on them, and a small piece of wood if possible, from a nearby lake or river. I was told it was "to make the fish more at home" but thinking back I believe it provided some of the necessary bacteria to deal with the waste. A side note… back then, we never heard of water treatment chems for an aquarium… we've come a long way.

  5. Hello! I am setting up a new freshwater aquarium! The tank is 10 gallons, and I am going to use a divider down the middle so I can fit two Bettas, each one having five gallons. This video offers a lot of great cycling techniques, but I wanted to ask your opinion. Which of these would be best suited for my situation? Thanks!

  6. We learn a lot from you. thank you, one question … I'm creating a new 120 gallon tank and would like to use a sponge filter from another tank to speed up the cycling process, but that tank always have black algae, would these algae be planted in the new tank? , thanks

  7. Hi, I’m setting up a new freshwater aquarium and I think I’m going to go down the route of a bottle of bacteria and a few prawns method. My question is, can I scape the aquarium i.e rocks, wood plants and substrate while I’m waiting for the tank to cycle? Great presentation by the way, well done👍🏻 many thanks.

  8. I started my tank on tap water and put fish in immediately 15 years ago. All my fish did just fine at that time. Now trying to start a new one again, they all die. Just makes you wonder how bad the water really is.

  9. What if your trying to help start your buddies tank and EVERYTHING is fine but he's got Ammonia already went through the nitrites process though? Just Got a better filter and still have all his media? What's the best way to jump his new filter and get rid of ammonia at the same time…. Mulm with my water. Gravel. Media? Or DON'T use his Lil cartridges in the new filter?

  10. Lol hope your feeling better, just to mention, you can cycle a tank with plants, decaying leave and die back helps to kick start the process. Also some substrates leach ammonia that helps with cycling.

  11. My very first aquarium, I didn’t know about cycling. It took me several years to find out what it meant. But my next most recent new aquarium i never tested! Wow, I had growing plants and just started with a few guppies, then added more each time. I did start testing but only for ammonia. I most likely killed some fish, but haven’t lost any fish due to spikes since. As now i use the three testing methods for optimum results and water changes consistently. But now I am getting read for a 55 gallon to house my new cichlids and will be using a couple of your methods for the cycling process. I like the shrimp in the tank method and the “mulm” method as I already have two tanks set up and cycled. So, I will be doing this in the next month or so, but thanks as I am excited to cycle my 55.
