LIMITED EDITION SHIRTS!! Get yours here: https://goo.gl/fvSh6Y

While in California at uncle sam’s discus, in the middle of the night, the aquarium I was supposed to scape and set up while there… CRACKED! I saw this as an opportunity to not only show you what happened, but what to do if this happens to you as well as what caused it in the first place. Clearly this isn’t something that happens every day.

  2. I'm here because at 12:45 in the morning I get woke up with water gushing out of my tank lucky it was a 13.5 fluval evo tank not a 125 gallon none the less it was on top of my dresser so it was perfectly flat it cracked on the bottom the thing is i just got in this hobby and have a 46 gallon bow front I was just getting ready to set up but after this nightmare I'm done with this hobby

  3. Hey Joey what's your advice on a tank that's flushed on the 2 sides and the front but in the back there is a very small gap enough to see a light when I used the flashlights.

  4. 1/2" Glass for a 2m Tank is to weak. Worst thing yo can do is a stand that is to high in the mid section. To low in the middle could eventually be acceptable.

  5. Joey is spot on. The builder obviously did not check for square, corner to corner, but using 3/4" ply on top would have helped considerably. In my opinion, the ultimate responsibility for the failure of the tank lies with the person installing the tank on top of the stand. Had that person simply checked for square immediately upon the install on top of the stand, as any seasoned aquarist would, they would have spotted the errors and avoided disaster.

  6. Im going to build a stand for a 125 gallon. I was going to use 3/4 inch plywood for the top for the tank to sit on. With 2×4 bracing. Thoughts?

  7. This is why I decided on a Acrylic tank, The stand that came with it had a rusted out beam, so I welded some flat bar and added center supports to it, treated the metal with reformer and will be completely re-spraying it. I am also installing extra thick plywood under the tank and a thick rubber foam mat- Don't want a 100 gallon mess!

Large glass tanks are just too risky IMHO and requires a very very sharp eye to make sure nothing will lead to a failure.

  8. UMMMmmm No the first thing I would is to freak the heck out maybe a high squeak, then go down the list……I am just glad that there were no fish in it and it did not explode and it was not in any ones house and……….

  9. In the old days we used to put a sheet of polystyrene under the tank, but today's tanks have a plastic edge running around the bottom edges, covering the weight bearing parts, so cant do the polystyrene sheet anymore. The key words are LEVEL your tank then make sure its FLAT,… Great channel keep up the good work, from a fellow Aquaddict : ) and probably bred more Axolotls in the UK during the late 80's than any man around, even PewdiePies got some : )

  10. So my apartment is not leved slope towards the middle of floor but my Fishtank does touch all four corners touch down but it is tilted forward does that matter at all

  11. How much of a gap is reasonable (or any) between the tank stand and rimmed tank? Is say a 1/16 of an inch (tank empty) OK? or no? It seems hard to get a piece of plywood perfectly flat.

  12. Hi King of DIY, greetings from India, I am planning for an aquarium which is almost 150gallons…i have some queries on the design as am constructing the same from an available glass table base counter at my home. Request you to kindly provide your mail I'd for posting you details of the plan. I just wanted your expert view on the base of the aquarium so that it doesn't crack… Its been a great pleasure for following your channel which very Informative and will be very happy if I get some guidance from you regarding my issue… Thanks in advance

  13. Wait so leveling isn’t important? Everyone on these forums is always saying they have to be perfectly level or water puts pressure on glass and causes a breakage. It’s freaked me out.

  14. My tank is over 20 year old and silicone have never been redone. Now im worry it might leak but i dont have anyone to help me how to do it. Any advice anyone?
