How To Clean Your Bio Filter

Here’s a video on how I clean my bio filter that i built a while back.

I remove everything from the filter and clean up all the sponges and scrubbies with a hose. I then clean 50-80% of the bio balls, not all so that there is a colony of beneficial bacteria to start off a new colony. I then dump out all of the water in the container and re-assemble the scrubbies, sponges, bio balls, mesh, rocks, etc. in it’s place. DO NOT clean out the container/canister/trashcan, this way there’s some beneficial bacteria to start off a new colony. If you do clean it, don’t worry. A new colony will start, but it will take some time. You could also add in some beneficial bacteria that are sold in bottles. Finally I turn on the pump and let the filter do it’s thing. As an extra natural filter I add plants to the top of the container. This filters the water more and adds beauty to the pond. Thanks for watching! And For the Love Of Goldfish!
